There’s a bit of good news on the salary front. According to data compiled by the CRHA, compensation is projected to increase by 2.8% in 2011.
With the help of seven firms specializing in compensation, the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés (CRHA) created a mapping of forecast Canadian salaries for 2011. Aon Consulting, Hay Group, Hewitt and Associates, Normandin Beaudry, Mercer Human Resources Consulting, Morneau Sobeco, Saucier Consulting Inc. and Towers Watson polled 2,575 organizations for the study.
The first finding of this CRHA compilation is that building and construction employees will get the biggest increases, at 3.24% on average, with managers’ salaries in this sector slated to increase by 3.38% next year. On the contrary, the health care and social services sector will see the smallest increase, i.e. 2.33%. Managers and professionals in this sector will have the smallest increases of all areas of activity, at 2.14% on average.
Salary increases will not be the same across Canada. Labrador and Newfoundland will enjoy the highest increase at 3.5%, followed by Saskatchewan in second at 3.3% and Alberta with an increase of 2.9%. Quebec’s forecast rise of 2.7% will be below the national average. Ontario and British Columbia will bring up the rear with forecast increases of 2.4%, or the lowest in the country.
