1. Gorilla Group, an e-commerce solutions provider, plans to develop its Canadian operations in the Greater Montreal area, thus hiring some 70 Montrealers over the next two years.

2. The Government of Canada is funding summer jobs for the youth, funding that will create thousands of job opportunities (up to 35,000) for young people aged 15 to 30, who are full-time students and intending to return to school in the fall.

3. RES Canada, a specialist in solar and wind energy projects, has announced the construction of a wind farm in Quebec, which will employ over 200 skilled workers during peak construction activities, and 10 to 12 people when the wind farm will begin its services.

4. Serres Lacoste, located in Les Éboulements in Charlevoix, is now back in service after having interrupted their activities last November due to financial constraints. This recovery allows for the creation of 40 new jobs.

 

5. Walmart has opened its Supercenter in Drummondville, an expansion of their existing store which allows for the sale of fresh, chilled and frozen foods in addition to having created 65 new positions

1. Resolute Forest Products are closing two paper producing machines in Quebec, one in Baie-Comeau and the other in Charlevoix, causing the loss of 120 jobs. The new forestry regime in Quebec and the increases in electricity rates are to blame.

2. Forty-seven people lost their jobs at the Olin chlorine plant in Bécancour, following the decision not to rebuild part of the installation that was destroyed by an explosion last June. Management prefers to focus its investments in the United States.
