Aeronautical.ca takes flight during the Laval Job and Training Fair

New job site will officially launch October 1, during the Laval Job and Training Fair, near key aeronautical areas such as Mirabel and St. Laurent. Created by jobwings Careers, this bilingual, Canada-wide site targets all jobs in the aeronautic and air transport field, including maintenance, R&D, construction, logistics and mechanics. Candidates will also be able to access articles on aeronautical jobs, perform job searches in their field, or explore training opportunities. Aeronautical.ca joins the jobWings family of 15 specialized job sites. Manuel Francisci, jobWings Careers President, explains: “Until now, aeronautical jobs were published on our site specializing in technical careers, Recrutech.ca. This leading Canadian sector deserved its own site, however.”

New, enhanced Jobboom.com

Last year, Quebecor considered the possibility of selling Jobboom.com, but finally rejected the idea. The group even decided to invest further in the job site to make it grow. The result is a brand-new look for the site, with better search functionalities and more content. “The navigation is easier and more fluid. The site is much faster, and searches are more intuitive, being adapted to Web 2.0. The information is showcased better and is easier to find,” explains Patricia Richard, Director of Content at Jobboom. This restyling is the first step towards a more global change for Jobboom.

Employee productivity drops late in the day

According to a poll of 150 managers conducted by Accountemps, most employers have noticed a drop in employee productivity at the end of the day. 32% of respondents said that efficiency decreases between 4 and 6 p.m., vs. only 9% for the 8 to 10 a.m. period. Accountemps offers five tips for battling this phenomenon. First, plan ahead—don’t leave challenging projects until the end of the day. Step out for some fresh air to recharge. Eat well to avoid drops in energy. Track goals by keeping a to-do list, and finally, switch gears from time to time to stay focused.

Ontario to strengthen retirement pension system

This fall, the Ontario government should table a bill aimed at strengthening the retirement pension system. The reform will focus mainly on the Pension Benefits Guarantee Fund, which assists workers whose employer plans are under-funded. This Fund has recently benefited from a $500-million provincial injection. To provide it with more stability, it has been proposed to increase the employer contribution to the Fund. Combined with other reforms, this would increase contributions to the Fund by about $30 million a year.

Target-based compensation motivate employees to cheat

According to a study by three Canadian researchers titled “Are You Paying Your Employees to Cheat?,” some target-based compensation systems incite employees to misrepresent their results. They question the use of tier-based systems, in which the frustration of not reaching the set objectives motivates employees to cheat. The phenomenon is even more prevalent when employees feel they are nearing the goal but the pressure put on them to reach it increases also. Study authors are disappointed that such compensation systems focus more on volume than quality of results.

Facebook off limits to German recruiters

The German government has just approved a bill preventing recruiters from seeking out information on candidates on purely social networking sites like Facebook. From now on, they will no longer have the right to become friends with candidates on Facebook in order to find out more about them. The bill will now go to Parliament for discussion. Even if it is adopted, recruiters would still be allowed to search for publicly accessible information about prospective employees on the Web and to consult professional networking sites.
