You would have thought that for recruiting secret agents, the direct approach would be te most appropriate. Well it seems that this is not the case for the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation since they have launched a campaign of sponsored links on Google. The sponsored links are text ads which appear in the margins of the search results from the key words that you type. The ad reads “Looking for a challenging career of national importance?” but the key words which allow it to appear are not revealed.
Buying key words on the Google search engine is only one of the strategies retained for attracting potential candidates in a vast recruitment campaign costing 1 million dollars, also including advertisements on specialized job boards and in newspaper classifieds. The objective for the agency is to increase staff numbers from 1000 to 1860 by 2011.
Although this recruitment campaign is getting attention, it is clearly stated in the organization's careers section that each application should remain strictly confidential…not to be shouted from the rooftops.
