As it does every year, Forbes has published its ranking of Canada’s best employers, based on the opinions of those working in the organizations
concerned. The 2019 list contains some surprises…
Would you recommend your employer to other people? This is the question that Statista, Forbes’ partner, asked 8,000 Canadians working in companies with over 500 employees. They were then asked to name other organizations than their own. The result was a list of 300 employers who received the most recommendations, both from their own employees and from outside people.
The winners
Is this still a surprise? Google once again dominates the ranking of Canada’s best employers… However, the University of Toronto is a close runner-up, so watch out for
next year! With only 2% staff turnover despite having more than 20,000 employees, the company is pleased to invest in its employees for the long term. Avis Budget Group takes the third step on the podium. It should be noted that the leading trio is made up of three companies whose Canadian headquarters are in Toronto.
The rest of the Top 10
Coming next is Pratt & Whitney (aerospace and defence), Saint Mary’s University in Halifax (education, the smallest organization of the Top 10 with 950 employees), Hydro-Québec (electricity provider), Ubisoft (media and advertising), Concordia University (education), Microsoft (computers, internet, software and services) and RTL Longueuil (transport and logistics).
