The online game Second Life is becoming the hot new place for online recruiting, where all self-respecting employers are to be found. Joining the ranks of TMP Worldwide, L’Oréal, Hewlett-Packard, Verizon Communications, Areva, Unilog, Microsoft, Alstom, the Great Northern Way Campus in British Columbia, the Canadian police is getting in on the virtual reality 3D game that already has more than 2 million players to date!
The objective is clear: to recruit tech-savvy police officers to strengthen the technology crimes unit. The virtual candidates in Second Life may take the form of green trolls or Lara Croft, but one thing is certain; if they are there, it’s because they know the ins and outs of the Web and virtual networks.
The Vancouver police have already held a first recruiting session in their Second Life space last June, with a second one planned before the end of 2007. With the intensifying talent war in the popular computer sector, all means are good to seduce the so-called nerds who live and breathe the Internet!
