  • Recruiting firm: Robert Half opens an office in Quebec City

Global staffing group Robert Half International announced the opening of a new office in Quebec City. This office will house three of the firm's staffing divisions in finance and accounting: Accountemps (temporary staff), Robert Half Finance and Accounting (full-time staff) and Robert Half Management Resources (project specialists).

The company now has 12 offices in Canada: in Ottawa, Richmond Hill, Toronto, Mississauga, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Montreal, the West Island of Montreal and Quebec City. The latest addition is located at 2600 Laurier Boulevard, Suite 970.

 

  • HR software: Bernard Hodes completes its services with the "Wanted Analytics" tool

The Bernard Hodes Group, a U.S. supplier of recruiting communications and hiring solutions, has just signed a contract with WANTED Technologies for the use of their Web-based dashboard. From now on, group counsellors will used "WANTED Analytics" to monitor recruitment advertising activity for employers across North America. Analytics gives a complete and accurate view of a company's online job advertising and enables users to quickly identify and eliminate multiple job postings of the same position. This tool will help Bernard Hodes counsellors develop branding strategies in the employment field.

 

  • HR software: Kenexa acquires BrassRing for US$115 million

, (formerly TalentPoint), has just purchased for US$115 million, including $10 million in cash. This major U.S. publisher thus purchases its direct competitor in the talent management solutions market.

BrassRing markets software solutions that support recruiting and retention processes. Designed for multinationals, the solutions are available in 23 languages. The company has some 180 clients, including Time Warner, IKEA, General Electric, e-Bay, Ernst & Young, ExxonMobil and Nissan Motor.

Publicly traded for the first time this year, Kenexa widens its offering, proposing a range of HR solutions tailored to both very large groups as well as small and medium-sized businesses.

 

  • HR agency: TMP launches HR newsletter and moves to new premises

TMP Canada, the HR communications agency, has just launched the first Canadian edition of The Edge, TMP Worldwide's online newsletter, featuring news and leading articles on recent trends in recruiting, employment marketing, retention and HR communications.

The agency also announced its move to new premises. Its new Montreal offices are at 1475 Saint-Alexandre, Suite 850, Montreal, Quebec, H3A 2G4. Telephone and fax numbers stay the same.

 

  • Company: Alcan adopts a global policy for indigenous peoples

On November 1, Alcan, a leading global materials supplier, announced the adoption of a global Indigenous Peoples policy. The policy aims to "promote constructive and sustainable relationships with local communities" in the 61 countries and regions where the group is present.

Alcan held consultations with indigenous peoples in Kitimat (British Columbia), Saguenay–Lac-St-Jean (Quebec), and Gove, Australia. This new line of conduct applies to areas such as education, training, regional industrial development and environmental management. It will be applied in the 440 Alcan plants throughout the world.

Committed to sustainable development since 2003, through the Alcan Prize for Sustainability in particular, the group has nevertheless been fingered, accused of intimidation and violence towards the local community for its proposed bauxite mine in Kashipur, India.

 

  • Job site: Dice acquires eFinancialCareers

On November 1, the U.S. job site network Dice Holdings announced its acquisition of U.K.-based eFinancial for US$91 million, an unheard-of figure in the world of specialized job sites. eFinancialCareers.com, which is well established in the finance market in Europe, is also present in Asia, Australia and the United States with the jobsinthemoney.com site.

The Dice network now possesses four niche job sites, in the technology (dice.com), finance (eFinancialCareers.com and jobsinthemoney.com) and security clearance (clearancejobs.com) sectors. It also organizes job fairs with Targeted Job Fairs and is involved in online testing and training for IT professionals with MeasureUp.

 

  • Job site: HR.com introduces career section

Founded in 1999 by venture capitalist Ventures West, HR.com is a portal for connecting human resources professionals in North America with knowledge and resources. It has just launched a career section, which is free for registered members. Job postings are searchable by location and key word, for all types of human resources jobs.

 

  • Job site: Nature magazine launches naturejobs.com

Nature magazine, a reference in the scientific world, launched the naturejobs.com site, for science jobs in industry and university research. This new service, free for candidates and recruiters, currently lists 1,200 jobs throughout the world, including some 50 in Canada. The editorial content of the Science career magazine section provides numerous resources for the research community.

 

  • Job site: Founding of Fairy Lake Jobs, a new job site in Ontario

Founded at the end of October by IT-Challenger Consulting Group, an Internet search technologies integrator, Fairy Lake Jobs targets recruiters and candidates from Ontario's York region (towns of Newmarket and Aurora). This site provides access to job postings in various sectors in this geographic area via a regional search engine. It also publishes postings from local recruiters free of charge.
