Humiliation invitation
The American job board with the help of an online game which allows them (among other things) to throw pizza or jelly donuts in their face. A viral marketing venture in questionable taste…
Clearly anything is allowed to get noticed in the competitive online job board industry. Dice, the most important niche site in the United States just launched a viral marketing venture where unhappy employees are invited to play “JOE IT the IT Guy” and to vent their frustration on the CIO, the project manager and/or the sales manager.
The game is presented with an office plan in Flash animation which allows you to choose your first victim. Once the victim is chosen, JOE IT leaves the server room to go to the colleague’s office. After a short video sequence of the victim talking to you in his office (or giving you a lecture in other words), you have a choice between different weapons to let off some steam. A jelly donut bazooka, pizza launcher, lightning gun, giant boxing glove, and a bubonic plague dart among others, make up the range of weapons at your disposal in order to silence your victim. An indicator lets you see your stress level decrease as you let loose your abuse on your colleague.
Although the quality of the animation and the game are good in general, the violence of the scenario and the animations are in questionable taste. Even in simulated virtual reality, to invite unhappy employees to freely and violently let off steam on their colleagues is deplorable. Then again, employee (or ex-employee) violence in the workplace is not unusual in the United States…
