First Canadian gay job fair
Canada's first LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer) job fair was recently held in Toronto, following the example of San Francisco, world capital of the gay community, which held its first such fair in 2004. Reverse discrimination was not a factor here, since the jobs were not exclusively reserved nor offered to candidates of this community before others. It was, nevertheless, an excellent, cost-effective way for employers to communicate an image of open-mindedness and concern for the diversity of their labour.
This first edition of the fair, presented by the Rainbow Employment Network of Toronto (R.E.N.T.),was held March 6, 2008, at the Primrose Hotel. It attracted several dozen employers, including banks, retail chains, service companies and police services.
