New immigration law harmful to Canada’s attractiveness
This is what a new study conducted by the Maytree Foundation reports. It also considers that the Harper government’s reform of immigration, set up a few months ago, could put Canada’s future in peril. Combating social injustices and inequalities, the Foundation believes that it is “a reform that lacks vision and is incoherent, drafted on the fly and a difficult birth”. Injustice, disrespect of Canada's hospitable tradition, more difficult access to citizenship,… are all black marks which do not encourage skilled immigration, integration of new arrivals and will even be counter-productive economically, according to Naomie Alboim, co-author of the report.
52100 new jobs recorded in September
There were 44,100 full time and 8,000 part time jobs created last month in Canada. The sectors concerned were retail, wholesale, construction, information, culture, recreation, services and agriculture. The increase is all the more spectacular knowing that Statistics Canada had registered an average of 21,600 jobs created per month in the last six months. The agency tries to adjust the figures to take account of seasonal phenomena, such as teachers leaving for vacations and returning at the start of the school year. But this phenomena would not seem to serve as an explanation since the education sector registered a reduction of 13,600 jobs during September.
