According to the fourth annual Rosenzweig Report on Women at the Top Levels of Corporate Canada, the number of women in top executive jobs in Canada’s largest publicly traded companies has never been higher. This year, there were 36 women in the executive ranks of the 100 companies surveyed, vs 31 last year.
The overall presence of women in such positions remains very low overall, however, since just 7% of corporate leaders are women. Moreover, this wind of change could be hampered by the current economic downturn.
To note, 69% of the largest Canadian public companies do not have any women among their highest-paid executives. And among the five largest Canadian banks, four were on the Rosenzweig list— RBC, TD, CIBC and BMO, confirming the banking sector’s leadership in promoting women to top jobs.
