Jobboom II
The leading employment site in Quebec reveals its new version. Actually, it is a case of a complete reformatting of the site which has experienced hardly any transformations nor updates in technology since its launch in 1999. The sector specialization of this version is the focus since Jobboom was enhanced at the end of last week with 11 new sectors and several dozen selection criteria.
The 16 job sectors are:
- Accounting, Finance and Insurance
- Administrative Support
- Art, Fashion, Film and Museology
- Communications, Publicity and Archives
- Construction, Production and Handling
- Engineering, Biopharmaceutics, Pure and Applied Sciences
- Food Services, Hotels, Tourism and Recreation
- Health
- Human Resources and Industrial Relations
- Information Technology and Multimedia
- Miscellaneous Services and Commerce
- Motor Vehicles and Transportation
- Public Protection Law and Professions
- Sales and Customer Service
- Senior Management/Executives
- Social Services, Social Sciences and Education
The "General" sector is no longer, as its reason for being has been withdrawn.
Each of the 1 500 000 members of Jobboom should take the trouble to update their profile in order to benefit from this new classification and to receive targeted offers more precise to their professional aspirations.
Still in the new chapter, the registration assistant as well as the CV depot still required to be able to apply, have been reconsidered in order to improve the user-friendliness.
Graphically speaking, the bright red which was predominant before has been replaced by much softer pastel colours, in the image of the face which makes its appearance on all the pages on the site. The appearance of the site and more particularly the home page should continue to evolve from here in the next few months.
Jobboom will take the opportunity to raise tariffs somewhat from Mars 1st. If you want to renew your subscription, hurry up!
Today jobWings celebrates its fifth anniversary at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and is using the occasion to complete its collection of job boards by 3 simultaneous launches.
In 2006, jobWings intends to pursue its development throughout the rest of English Canada, a project undertaken at the start of 2005. To do this, the Publipac.ca job posting service, federating a dozen niche job boards, is present at the most important HR event in Canada from February 1 – 3, the “HRPAO’s Annual Conference & Tradeshow”. This event takes place at the Toronto Convention Centre and brings together more than 200 exhibitors from all fields of human resources.
This first participation at the HRPAO conference in Toronto is so much more symbolic for jobWings which celebrates its 5 years in existence on February 1, the first day of this tradeshow. The young Montreal company takes the opportunity to put three new niche job boards online on this date which will enrich the existing deal:
www.adminjobs.ca for job offers in administrative support such as secretary, executive assistant, office clerk, receptionist, data entry clerk…
www.recrutech.ca for job offers in engineering and technology. Around forty specialties unique to engineering help to narrow the search.
www.temps-partiel.ca (www.part-time.ca in English) for part time job offers. The purpose of this site is to offer extra exposure to jobs with a reputation for being difficult to fill such as those in the retail industry, call centers and hospitality. Contrary to the other two, this site does not feature on the list of specialized sites on Publipac.ca and it is not possible for an employer to post a job directly. Part-time.ca posts all part time job offers from advertisers on the publipac.ca network as well as those subscribed to the job search engine nicejob.ca, at no extra cost.
The Education Fair and the Training Career Fair change hands
INEO, the company who has been organizing the Education Fairs and Training Career Fairs in Montreal for a decade, is now an affiliate of DLC Communications. This company specializes in the production of large public fairs and has also been running “The National Job Fair & Training Expo” in Toronto since 2002. The INEO team who ensure the organization and success of the event will remain and is already preparing for the 11th edition which will take place on October 11, 12, 13 and 14 2006.
Daniel Levesque, the new owner of INEO, expects to benefit from the synergy between its fairs in Toronto and in Montreal and also to offer exhibitors a unique window allowing them to be part of the two most important markets in Canada.
Quebecdetail becomes Retailjob.ca
The job board specialized in the publication of job offers in retail, Quebecdetail.com, launched by the company jobWings in alliance with canadianretail.com in March 2005, has changed its name and logo. Quebecdetail.com has become Retailjob.ca and the logo based on that of canadianretail.com has been replaced by a new one.
The acquisition of Canadianretail.com by Canwest and its integration to the Working.com group job board are not unrelated to this situation reversal. According to jobWings these changes have not been imposed by the new owner of canadianretail.com, but rather result from an internal corporative decision. Retailjob.ca no longer limits itself to retail job offers in Quebec but proposes covering the whole country.
New environmental job search tool for native Canadians
Native Canadians wanting a career in the environment now have a brand new online job centre at their disposal. Created by the BEAHR (Building Environmental Aboriginal Human resources) the job centre allows access to all environmental jobs across Canada. It is also possible to register and submit your curriculum vitae on the site. This job centre is the result of a pooling of services by the BEAHR partners, by ECO Canada and the Aboriginal Human Resource Development Council of Canada (AHRDCC). www.beahr.com
Fido abandon the Taleo solution
It’s a matter of a ‘logical” consequence of the repurchase of Microcell by Rogers at the end of 2004. Indeed, the Toronto group already disposes of a home recruitment solution shared by all its affiliates.
It remains to be seen what Taleos other clients in Quebec will decide when it comes to the time for renewal. They consulted with each other to evaluate the pros and cons of the solution presented by the provider.
Agentsolo.com passes the 10 000 members mark
It will take exactly 3 years for this portal, putting independent professionals and companies in search of professional service providers into contact and negotiations with each other, to register its ten millionth member. AgentSolo.com has been organizing networking and training activities for some months and allow this virtual community of autonomous workers and micro companies not only to find each other but also to help one another to develop their respective business. You can consult the interview with founder Yves Williams conducted by La Toile des Recruteurs in May 2003 here (in French only).
