Karaoke in the office!
More fun than a team-building seminar and less expensive than a publicity campaign to raise the company profile, enter Lip Dub. Watch out, these off-the-wall videos are creating buzz on the web!
A dozen colleagues with red reindeer antlers on, dancing to an Old Man River song while drinking beers… that’s Lip Dub! The idea is to film employees in one long take – that is, without cuts or editing – as they lip-synch in the workplace, in their own original staging of a song. A video made “on the job” indeed!
All this took off from an initiative by the New York communications agency, Connected Ventures. In April of 2007, the employers filmed themselves in the office lip dubbing to the hit song “Flagpole Sitta” by the band Harvey Danger. They then created an official website and posted their video online, putting out the challenge to other companies. The French communications agency, Heaven, was the first to respond. Today, 24 videos submitted from Switzerland, Italy and even Uruguay are up on the site, not counting amateur efforts on You Tube or Daily Motion.
Media, advertising, the web… the Lip Dub concept has especially garnered followers in communications companies who put their imaginations, and a touch of competitive spirit, to work on the concept and rendering of their own videos. Drawing from different inspirations each time, the results are a real mixed bag!
Beyond the simple “delirium” shared amongst colleagues, Lip Dub is also an opportunity for employees to rally around a common project, reinforce team spirit and, above all, create buzz! A lip dubbing company projects an image of itself as creative, dynamic, and not to mention, “so cool”.
