1 . Montreal’s status as a pioneer region in 3D digital imaging has attracted the French special effects and animation company BUF. The organization has announced it will be opening a subsidiary in Greater Montreal: about 80 new jobs will be created in the first year, and up to another 125 within the next three years.
2 . The fields of digital imaging and semiconductors will see growth in Montreal and in Montérégie. The company Teledyne DALSA, and its subsidiary Teledyne DALSA Semiconductor, were approved for a $13 million grant by Investissement Québec. All in all, 300 skilled jobs in these areas will be created and another 425 will be consolidated.
3 . Sigma Industries Inc., a manufacturing company specializing in the manufacture of composite products, has announced the creation of 50 direct jobs and 15 indirect jobs at the René Composite Materials Ltd. Facilities in Saint-Ephrem-de-Beauce and Saint-Clotilde-de-Beauce.
4 . New baseboards assembly line, new production equipment … Stelpro has the wind in its sails: the integrated heating solutions company will create 30 new jobs at its plant in Saint Bruno-de-Montarville.

Layoffs
1 . Canadelle, the Canadian manufacturer of Hanes underwear, will close its Montreal doors. With that, 170 people will be losing their jobs by the end of the year.

2 . BlackBerry, the former smartphone giant, has laid off hundreds of employees in Ottawa as part of its restructuring plans which were announced last September.

3 . The Quebec company Datamark Systems has announced it will close its facilities across Canada. More than 400 people will lose their jobs, including 300 in Greater Montreal.
4. Sixty employees at the Desjardins-Pollack Hall cafeteria at Laval University have received a notice of collective dismissal. Their employer has lost the contract to manage food services to CADEUL, the undergraduate students association.
