New French survival guide for online recruiting

Émilie Pelletier and Didier Dubois have written a guide to help human resources professionals understand and use new Web 2.0 tools.

It was officially launched on September 27 at the World HR Congress in Montreal. In the book, the two HR marketing and Web 2.0 specialists and founders of the HRM Group—an HR consulting firm—discuss and provide tips on recruiting and HR communication via social networks, sites such as YouTube or Twitter, and even online multiplayer games. The purpose of the book is to introduce and explain these new recruiting tools, as well as teach the reader how to use them—but before that, how to decide which will be most useful.

The authors wanted to provide human resources professionals with a practical guide, livened up with illustrations, charts, tips and specific examples. Analytical tools are also included: at the end of each section, a questionnaire helps readers reflect on their own company’s situation. For example, “If you decided to create a Facebook page for your company, what would your objectives be and how much time would you be ready to invest?” or “Do your employees use LinkedIn?”

While social networks are often presented as the future of recruiting, they are not miracle tools—when used incorrectly, they represent a waste of time. The book gives tips for better targeting candidates and communicating one’s employer brand properly.
