Now, you can say “layoff” with Hallmark

Hallmark has just rolled out a new line of layoff greeting cards, whose future looks promising.

It’s not always easy to know what to say when someone loses his or her job, or how to say it. Should you resort to humour or not? Now, Hallmark’s new layoff cards will do it all for you. The new cards complete a line of cards for every occasion (e.g. birthdays, anniversaries, congratulations) with a variety of options (e.g. music, recorded message) and themes (e.g. take a break, fantasy, lifestyle). look at me

Workers in a staffing firm in Indiana—a state hard-hit by the recession—said that layoff cards were a good idea. The cards would be perceived as offering words of support and encouragement, essential for accepting one’s situation and facing the future with composure.

Although not everyone agreed, saying that they would be more likely to do something concrete like helping the person find a job, for instance, Hallmark predicts a rosy future for the new line. Current sales are good, a trend that should maintain itself with the unemployment rate at 9% and an uncertain economy.
