Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Working closely with the Program Manager, Safety Programs, this role is responsible for strategic, out of the box, forward thinking in the development and delivery of safety programs within their portfolio.

Job Description

  • Lead the corporate Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) program, conducting cross-departmental risk assessments in alignment with ICAO SMM requirements - this includes facilitation, documentation, obtaining approval / sign-off, validating implementation of agreed risk mitigations, warehousing, etc.
  • Develop and deliver risk-related training programs in collaboration with the Safety Training & Promotions team.

  • Provide oversight of all safety related manuals and drive increased alignment between functional areas.

  • As owner of the Group Safety Manual (GSM), responsible for performing regular review and maintenance to ensure that any changes to safety structure and policies are documented accordingly.

  • Ensure that any IOSA ISARP policy requirements are documented as appropriate in the Group Safety Manual.

  • Support the company’s compliance with safety regulatory requirements and audits – lead the ORG section of the annual IOSA auditing, presenting to the auditors and driving the remediations to any findings.

  • Manage and update the corporate hazard registers and safety risk profiles, ensuring top hazards are identified and addressed proactively.

  • Working with our business partners, create and maintain a robust change management program with a standardized template that can be used across the Group that will ensure a consistent approach to change in the organization. Ensure safety risk principles are integrated and implemented as part of this program.

  • Participate in safety committees reporting on safety risk initiatives when required

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Having a CRM (Canadian Risk Management) designation would be considered a strong asset
  • Excellent writing skills with a demonstrated ability to write quickly and succinctly, often within tight timelines
  • Experience in building and maintaining corporate policy and procedure manuals
  • Minimum 3 years in an Operational, Safety or Quality position
  • Understanding of operational and safety risks along with the approach to mitigating risk
  • Ability to form and manage effective relationships with various operational and safety departments
  • Strong attention to detail
