SAIT's Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training, the individual learner and international projects. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.
The Opportunity
The Manager, Talent reports to the Director, Business Operations, and is responsible for overseeing a team that includes Talent Coordinators, a Talent Administrator, an Instructional Engagement Partner, and a casual non-credit instructional workforce. This role supports programming within Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) by managing talent operations, including recruitment, hiring, training, professional development, payroll, performance management, and health and safety processes. It involves managing staff across the SAFA and AUPE unions and ensuring excellent customer experiences in these areas.
The Manager, Talent will also contribute to cross-institutional committees, provide leadership and consultation within CEPS, and support labor relations efforts. The role is responsible for developing and improving processes and technological solutions to enhance divisional efficiency and growth in collaboration with the Director, divisional leadership, and institutional stakeholders.
The Manager must be capable of working independently, while also collaborating effectively on cross-divisional and institutional initiatives. This position involves aligning talent management and instructional strategies with the strategic goals of CEPS and SAIT. The Manager will represent the division in relevant committees and technology projects, make informed decisions on talent-related initiatives, and contribute to strategic decision-making. The ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing demands, and lead proactive strategies is essential.
The Role
Leadership & People Management
Leads hiring, termination, promotion, and performance management of 8 talent staff and a large pool of adjunct SAFA and AUPE employees
Oversees coaching, mentoring, professional development planning and strategy, performance management, and issues resolution
Leads the development and implementation of onboarding and orientation as well as professional development and training strategy and solutions for non-credit instructors
Leads and manages safety for CEPS SAFA employees
Manages and contributes to activities towards compliance and related operations to labour relations and affiliated collective agreements
Process and Operational Improvement
Leads and influences talent related processes and technology improvements within the division and in collaboration with SAIT departments and Human Resources. Continuously develops and redevelops talent related business processes relating to non-credit instructors in alignment with divisional direction/priorities.
Oversees CEPS operations processes and technology improvement for talent required for the end-to-end lifecycle of course delivery
Manages the non-credit Adjunct experience (hiring, pay, hours tracking, working with SAIT)
Advisory & Strategic Planning
Provides influence, judgement, and decision making on talent action plans for internal stakeholders
Contributes to CEPS and Business Operations strategic planning
Leads collaboration with HR on Collective bargaining for non-credit
Representative on SAIT HSE Council
Oversees department forecasting and reporting in relation to talent
Oversees instructional hiring, training, development, compensation and performance initiatives related to non-credit instructors and in partnership/collaboration with Human Resources
Qualifications
Minimum
A relevant degree in Business Administration or Human Resources with an emphasis on continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence or equivalent experience
Five years of related experience in high volume recruitment, human resources, or talent focused projects
Experience with recruiting and hiring broad professional skillsets on a contract basis
Demonstrated leadership and people management skills
Experience in leading process improvement, project management, or change management projects
Preferred
Experience in a post-secondary environment
Experience leading in a unionized environment
Working towards HR designation
