We are looking for a Manager of Training and Development who can seamlessly integrate leadership duties with individual contributor responsibilities. This position is well-suited for an individual with proven experience in leading enterprise training and development programs, coupled with a passion for hands-on solution delivery. The role also entails overseeing a small team of Training Specialists.

The role involves creating and delivering comprehensive learning and development programs for team members including lawyers, staff and students. This individual will collaborate with subject matter experts, department managers and HR leadership to design, implement and assess training initiatives that align with organizational objectives. Additionally, the Manager of Training and Development will assist the Director of Human Resources in formulating recruitment strategies, developing onboarding programs and supporting various HR-related activities.

Responsibilities include:

Team leadership

  • Managing work allocation, time-off requests and backup and overseeing the daily operations of the Training Specialist team
  • Leading team meetings and discussions, facilitating the sharing of information related to ongoing projects and changes impacting the team
  • Developing and establishing performance objectives, procedures and work standards for the team, setting clear expectations and supporting achievement of team goals through effective coaching and mentorship
  • Providing day-to-day support to the team by fostering a learning environment that encourages growth and skill development

Training and programs

  • Developing, implementing and delivering comprehensive training programs for lawyers, staff and students that align with organizational objectives
  • Conducting instructor-led training sessions, both in-person and virtually, ensuring an engaging and informative experience for all new hires
  • Delivering application and change-specific training, including software tools, via in-person sessions, e-learning platforms and virtual meetings. Providing additional one-on-one coaching to ensure employee proficiency
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts and business owners to ensure training content is accurate and relevant
  • Conducting audits and providing oversight of all internal training session facilitation
  • Developing and maintaining training materials including facilitation guides and content-at-point-of-need including brief instructional videos, reference guides and manuals, ensuring they are clear, actionable and accessible for all
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of training and onboarding programs, collecting feedback and adjusting content as needed to improve outcomes
  • Staying current with industry trends and best practices in training and development

Recruitment and onboarding

  • Developing and enhancing the firm's onboarding programs, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for all new hires, including lawyers, staff and students and alignment with firm objectives
  • Assisting the Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Talent Specialist in developing and executing recruitment strategies
  • Overseeing the student onboarding process by developing and executing a comprehensive annual strategy that ensures seamless integration of students into the organization and collaborating with human resources post-hiring to ensure a smooth experience

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field with at least 10 years' experience in human resources or training and organizational development
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn programs, applications and processes to ensure that training aligns with the outlined objectives
  • Proven experience in directing and delivering training programs in both in-person and virtual formats
  • Strong understanding of learning technologies, including e-learning platforms, virtual training tools, and instructional design
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • High degree of responsiveness, diplomacy and professionalism
  • Proven ability to independently manage projects, collaborate with senior leaders and engage cross-departmental support
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Thrives under pressure; excellent problem-solver and team player
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency working with HRIS and LMS platforms and Microsoft 365
  • Knowledge of HR best practices and recruitment and employee engagement strategies
  • Familiarity with industry trends and best practices in learning and development, employee training and human resources management
