Develop your skills in Human Resources and Volunteer Management by becoming the next People Services Intern at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo! The People Services Intern provides exceptional administrative support including assisting with file management, talent acquisition tasks, HR-related systems, and employee and volunteer engagement initiatives.

Contract:

  • Start Date: May 2025
  • End Date: August 2025

What you will do:

  • Help coordinate the organization-wide Step Challenge, including communications, progress tracking, system coordination, and prize distribution, with direction from the People & Culture Manager and Director.
  • Assist with talent acquisition tasks, including job postings, resume reviews, interview scheduling, and reference checks.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating data within HR-related systems, including a HRIS, Learning Program, and Recruitment platform.
  • Assist with filing, organizing employee/payroll records, and conducting file audits.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Human Resources department, including recognition and engagement event logistics and other human resources related initiatives.
  • Assist the Volunteer Experience department with tasks and projects as needed.

What you will bring:

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated from a certificate, diploma, or degree in Human Resources or related field (preferred)
  • Experience working in an office environment is preferred
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data entry is an asset
  • Experience with Sharepoint is an asset
  • Experience with HRIS systems is an asset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable learning new systems and platforms
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Working Conditions:

  • Shared office environment with intermittent outdoor mobility across the zoo
  • Team oriented working environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Periods of stress due to time sensitive deadlines with conflicting priorities

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
