Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Group Risk & Resilience, the Program Manager, Food & Water Safety will develop and maintain the WestJet Airlines (WestJet) Food Safety and Potable Water programs ensuring Safety & Quality oversight in accordance with company policies, Public Health Authority of Canada standards and other regulatory requirements.

In support of their duties, the Program Manager, Food & Water Safety will work with various groups and stakeholders, internal and external to the organization, to support the program's implementation, maintenance and ongoing effectiveness. As a result, this position requires frequent formal and informal communications with stakeholders at all levels of the organization including upper management, regulatory bodies and suppliers.

This role supports all of WestJet, and as such travel is required.

Responsibilities

· Establish and maintain the Food Safety and Potable Water Management Programs in accordance with WestJet company policies, Public Health Agency of Canada and other regulatory requirements

· Provide oversight and technical expertise for the Food Safety and Potable Water programs, offering guidance to operational business units to support compliance to program standards and government regulations

· Publish and maintain the Food Safety Management Plan (FSMP) and Potable Water Management Plan (PWMP) along with supporting documentation, ensuring that they are updated to a high standard including: The approved vendor program & The data-logging program

· Ensure that publications/regulations are analyzed and, if required, that WestJet manuals are appropriately amended

· Ensure that a reporting system is in place for food safety and potable water incidents/hazards that enables tracking and trending of related data;

· Ensure adequate investigation, root cause and corrective action plan development of reported food safety and potable water incidents/hazards to prevent recurrence

· Ensure appropriate emergency procedures are in place for food safety and potable water related incidents

· Liaise with Public Health Agency of Canada and other relevant external agencies involved with the WestJet Food Safety and Potable Water programs

· Develop, implement, and maintain quality control and assurance programs for the Food Safety and Potable Water programs, including oversight of contracted third-party auditor programs, to ensure alignment with internal policies, procedures, training requirements, and compliance with all applicable regulatory standards.

· Other duties as assigned that support the development of WestJet's Food Safety Management Program, larger safety program and maturation of its safety culture.

Qualifications

· 3+ years previous experience administrating a Food Safety and/or Potable Water program, preferably in a program management capacity

· Aviation or experience working with the travelling public considered an asset

· Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Environmental Public Health, Microbiology or Nutrition with a Certificate in Public Health Inspection preferred, or commensurate knowledge, skills and experience · Food Safety / HACCP certification considered an asset; · Proven ability to provide a high level of professionalism and confidentiality;

· Willingness to work independently and on a team in a fast-paced environment;

· Analytical skills with the proven ability to produce and interpret food safety metrics (time / temperature, microbiological) and trending analysis;

· Knowledge of local, municipal, and federal, international food (airline) regulations and guidelines, and the interpretation and application thereof;

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated success in establishing respect and credibility;

· A positive, "can-do" attitude, inquisitive style and customer focused approach to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity;

· Skilled in Microsoft Office application
