Overview
In this role, you will be the key contact and provide consulting advice to a dedicated block of clients with the support of the local and national retirement service teams. Additionally, you will be the lead of the Western Canada retirement team and contribute to its growth and development.
How you'll make an impact
- Managing retirement client account relationships and accountable for client retention & satisfaction
- Creating and executing an annual action plan to proactively service a designated group of clients
- Working effectively with the insurers and service providers to provide client outcomes and deliver on annual action planning, education and plan updates
- Coordinating client projects (e.g. implementations, roll outs, plan design changes, fund changes) and liaises with key project collaborators to ensure delivery of objectives
- Delivering governance and investment reports to client and committee meetings
- Developing rapport with, and mentoring, peers such as retirement-focused Account Executives, Account Managers and Account Coordinators
- Playing a key role in setting internal standards, ensuring the adoption of effective team methodologies and proven approaches.
- In partnership with colleagues and branch leaders, participating and contributing to developing internal training
- Participating and contributing to team member performance reviews and development plans in partnership with the Branch Leader
- Assigning team members their clients based on experience and team unit in partnership with the Branch Leader
- Assisting the Branch Leader in ensuring team members adhere to internal employee policies and procedures
- Participating in leadership discussions such as, but not limited to, team development, business development, and internal cultural development
- Auditing documentation to ensure it is current and aligned with applicable laws and regulations
- Auditing plans and makes recommendations for compliance and enhancements
- Ensuring plans are in sync with the CAP Guidelines and that clients are meeting their fiduciary duties, including assistance with required pension plan reporting
- Interpreting benchmark data and identifies areas for plan improvement
- Assisting with the development of client communications including, custom branding, memos and email announcements, posters, postcards, etc., as needed
- Developing presentations for use with plan sponsors and plan members
- Recommending fund updates, where applicable
- Developing client proposals and project budgets
- Responding to general and technical questions regarding plan operation and legislation
- Assisting with escalated client and employee concerns
- Supporting Producers where needed with prospecting activities and onboarding new business
- Contributing to articles/email updates/newsletters on retirement-related topics including legislative changes, industry trends, and carrier updates
- Regularly reading retirement and benefits related periodicals (e.g., Benefits Canada), attending vendor information sessions in order to learn about, and compare, products and services being offered to recommend solutions to clients
About you
- Minimum 10 years of industry-specific experience, preferably with team lead experience
- Post-secondary education preferred
- Strong command of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook and TEAMS
- Excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and handle several concurrent tasks in a demanding work environment
- Ability to work independently as well as being part of a team
- Skills to build, develop and coach a team to bring the best outcomes
- Proven ability to present investment and retirement planning topics to pension committees, plans sponsors and group audiences
- Working knowledge of provincial and federal pension legislation
- RPA/CEBS designation would be an asset
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
