About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking to fill the role of Senior Manager, Refining Business & Performance. Reporting to the Director, Downstream Portfolio Management & Business Integration, this individual will be responsible for working collectively with Downstream and Corporate functions to support the development, analysis, and communication of the Consolidated Downstream Business plan. In this role, you will work to bring insight to portfolio level performance to enable business performance improvement across the Downstream Manufacturing fleet (7 refineries, 2 ethanol plants and interests in products terminals) as it relates to financial and operational performance.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the process to develop, approve, and communicate the multi-year Downstream Manufacturing multi-billion-dollar business plan in coordination with Downstream asset leadership, Downstream Commercial & Supply, Downstream Technical Services (DTS), North American Performance Improvement, Corporate Planning, and related enabling functions

  • Apply in-depth knowledge of petroleum refining and Downstream value chain integration to coordinate Cenovus' Downstream Manufacturing integrated business model across assets, commercial, and corporate functions, with an emphasis on the long-range business plan

  • Collaborate with Downstream Risk modeling and Enterprise Risk teams to improve insight into the Downstream Manufacturing risk profile, supporting ongoing awareness and multi-year business planning

  • Jointly work with Commercial & Supply, corporate, enabling, and operational teams in the USA and Canada to plan for and evolve Downstream Manufacturing performance dashboards and reporting, supporting, and advising leadership decision-making and in-year performance management

  • Leverage, guide, and support resources from enabling teams to deliver on the prioritized Downstream performance measurement roadmap, including collaborating closely and coordinating with asset-based optimization and performance resources

  • Coordinate with teams to advance Downstream Manufacturing analytics by understanding the data landscape, defining critical metrics, managing inventory and competitor metrics, and integrating market intelligence, benchmarking, cost drivers, and sustainability goals across journey book focus areas

  • Lead the support and fulfillment of financial and business analytic requests from Downstream Leadership for review sessions, business plans, and corporate reporting

  • Collaborate with Downstream Strategy and asset leaders to incorporate the Downstream Manufacturing sustainability strategy into actionable initiatives within business plans

  • Actively engage and influence multi-disciplinary teams, including senior leaders, to drive continuous improvement by understanding risks, finding opportunities within multi-year business plans and annual budgets, and implementing standard methodologies to improve planning process effectiveness and efficiency

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Strong refining operations, commercial, financial, and intuition for business to evaluate and influence how Manufacturing business plans will deliver the financial results required to meet Corporate and Downstream strategies

  • Confirmed experience (16+ years minimum) leading direct, indirect, and cross-functional teams in Downstream Manufacturing and Corporate business areas to complete sophisticated and interdependent processes

  • Ability to simplify sophisticated finance and business matters for senior leader-level messaging

  • Bachelor's degree in commerce, finance, engineering, computer science, or a related field; a master's degree is an asset

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
