As an Engineer in Training (EIT) you will have the opportunity to apply your academic learning within the Transmission & Distribution teams within ATCO Electric. The program includes three 16-month rotations at various locations including: Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Lloydminster, Whitehorse, or Vegreville. The intent of the rotations is to provide you the opportunity to gain experience in diverse technical and business work to develop skills for you to attain a professional Engineering designation. This is accomplished through mentoring, coaching and on and off the job development. Your designation and skills establish the foundation for you to have a successful engineering career within the company.

What You Get to Do:

Over a four-year period, you will gain experience through three, 16-month rotations in planning, design, operation and maintenance of Transmission and Distribution Power Systems. These rotations include such areas as:

  • Facility planning and operational studies
  • Telecontrol and power system protection
  • Substation design and apparatus specification
  • Transmission and distribution network design
  • SCADA, metering, and telecommunications
  • Construction and commissioning of new facilities
  • Reliability performance and failure analysis
  • Distribution design and planning
  • Field operations
  • Substation protection and controls
  • Asset management

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, with a preference for Electrical, Civil, Computer or Mechanical
  • Proven problem-solving ability
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership potential
  • Effective presentation, one on one communication and writing skills
  • Class 5 driver's license with satisfactory driver's abstract
