We are currently hiring for a Part-Time Health and Safety Nurse for our Edmonton Manufacturing location. There is more to any job than words on a page, but the focus of this role is to provide Occupational Health Nursing services to the standards of practice recommended by the Alberta Association of Registered Nurses. The Health and Safety Nurse will take a proactive approach, working with employees to reduce injuries through education, consultation, and various employee wellness initiatives.

The schedule would be 3 days a week, 7 am to 3:30 pm. Currently, this position is part-time, however, there is a possibility of this role transitioning to full-time in the future.

On any given day, the Health and Safety Nurse is responsible for:

  1. Nursing
    • Defines nursing authority and duties based on standards of practice established by the AARN and AAOHN
    • Administers nursing care and health counseling and referrals utilizing nursing knowledge and skills in first aid, basic life support, and advanced life support in minor and major illnesses and injuries, and use of equipment according to policy and procedure
    • Supervise and assist in rescue, treatment, and set up transportation of ill or injured employees to medical aid
    • Maintains impartiality in dealings between supervisors and employees and making judgments only on a medical basis, while following professional ethics
  2. Safety and accident/incident prevention programs
    • Promotes health maintenance and prevention of illness and injury through surveillance and health screening programs and testing - including audiometric, spirometry, substance abuse, vision, BP, and BG
    • Establishes and promotes communication and working relationships with local medical facilities and other appropriate community agencies
    • Counsel employees with known allergies or medical conditions to wear Medic-Alert necklace/bracelet and to report such conditions to health personnel
  3. Continual Education and Professional Development
    • Maintains professional status through registration with: CARNA (Canadian Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta)
    • Participates in workshops and seminars to keep current in nursing and medical change and advancements and when subject matter is pertinent to the job and industry
    • Support in the updates of occupational health services and procedure manuals
  4. WCB Claims Management (Disability Management)
    • Understanding of WCB processes and procedures so able to support the facilitation of the All Weather Group of Companies claims management system

Primary Qualifications:

  • RN Designation required
  • Course work in OH&S is ideal
  • Standard First Aid - Level C with CPR & AED
  • Advanced First Aid certification
  • Nursing experience in a manufacturing setting is ideal
  • Understanding of Disability Claims Management
