As a member of the Human Resources Consulting team, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic guidance and support across the Institute. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the effective management of human resources in alignment with NAIT policies, procedures, and values. As part of our HR team, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues from various departments within HR, including Recruitment, Ability Management, Payroll & Benefits, HR Operations, and Organizational Development Services. You will also work with various clients across NAIT to support them in achieving their objectives and key results. Together, we'll leverage our collective expertise to drive positive change, foster a culture of excellence, and empower our employees to reach their full potential and support NAIT in delivering on it's Promises to Learners, Industry, Staff and Alberta (and beyond).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides knowledgeable and timely assessment, recommendation and advice on employee and labour relations issues

  • Analyzes and communicates implications of options, including risks, opportunities, and impacts, to support leadership in decision-making

  • Advises leaders and employees on the interpretation of HR policies and collective agreements

  • Act as a business partner to support management using the full range of HR functional expertise and knowledge to identify opportunities and challenges in the development of operational strategies related to restructuring, budget changes, and manpower planning

  • Reviews and assesses classification and job evaluation submissions, conducts job audits, and presents recommended classification

  • Supports leaders and employees in the absence and ability management process, including facilitating the duty to accommodate process

  • Guides leaders through the performance management process, advising on recommended actions and escalation of next steps where required

  • Facilitates and participates in the development of training for internal clients on topics related to employee and labour relations, performance management, and any other applicable area of responsibility

  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal and external groups to influence results that are beneficial to NAIT stakeholders, such as AUPE and NASA (NAIT Academic Staff Association)

  • Develop policy recommendations based on research, industry best practices, and stakeholder feedback

  • Conducts thorough investigations into employee misconduct, ensuring fairness and adherence to organizational policies and legal requirements

  • Participates in a variety of cross-functional projects and internal committees which may have institute-wide impact


Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) that are adaptable to meet the unique needs of different audiences

  • Ability to make sense of complex and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems

  • Ability to take on opportunities and tough challenges with urgency, high energy and enthusiasm

  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives

  • Ability to actively learn through experimentation, using both successes and failures as learning opportunities

  • Strong skills in persuading and influencing to achieve appropriate outcomes

  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation, policies, and procedures

  • Strong knowledge of labour relations principles and collective agreement interpretation


Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Human Resources Management or related field is required. A Degree in Human Resource Management or related field in preferred

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a related field

  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).


Remuneration: $82,189.64 - $108,886.96 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
