Reporting to the Supervisor, Safety Services, you will be part of the Health, Safety and Environment team. The role of Safety Consultant encompasses a broad range of activities that include supporting NAIT in the continued growth of our Health, Safety and Environment Management System and collaborating with stakeholders at NAIT to support continual improvement and advancement of a culture that embraces health, safety and well-being. It is an exciting role that will allow you to apply innovation, communication and technical expertise in a variety of applications.

Excellent technical safety skills combined with your interpersonal relationship skills in client relations, teamwork and communication are required to effectively deal with staff and students while applying the values of respect, collaboration, celebration, support and accountability in your work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of the Health, Safety and Environment Management System including procedures for inspection, investigation, hazard assessment and control, measurement, training, and other component elements in a diverse setting.

  • Support the development and delivery of health, safety and environment programs for all levels within NAIT.

  • Develop relationships with school and department leaders to engage and support the integration of health and safety into their operational work and provide consultation services on emergent health and safety items to develop innovative and best fit solutions in a model of collaboration.

  • Represent Health, Safety and Environment on safety committees.

  • Conduct, support and/or facilitate incident investigations to determine causes, prevent recurrence and to communicate learnings.

  • Support routine operations, maintenance teams, and project teams with safety pre-planning and execution of safety related tasks.

  • Provide technical support on safety related issues for staff and contractors, through advice and recommendations on equipment, procedures and practices.

  • Participate in the evaluation of Contractor Safety Management plans as part of Contractor Management process.

  • Evaluation of new and existing equipment and processes to assist clients with the development of safe work procedures.

  • Identify and communicate to schools and departments where non-compliance with applicable regulations and/or codes exist and facilitate corrective actions.

  • Track monthly safety activities, relevant incident statistics and identify trends.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Collaborative, inclusive, and work effectively independently and in a team environment.

  • Strong knowledge of OHS regulations, industry standards and contractor safety management.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks, analyze data, and provide practical solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.

  • Proficiency in utilizing OHS software, safety management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with stakeholders and colleagues.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of progressively responsible experience in health and safety roles.

  • Related experience working in a large diverse organization.

  • Experience working with and implementing health and safety management systems is required.

  • Preference to candidates who have successfully completed a Certificate, Diploma or Degree in the field of Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Preference to candidates who possess the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).


Remuneration: $74,793.16 - $99,084.96 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
