What will be your daily pursuit?

In Class 2 MELT training you will be provided with the coaching to be able to complete the required written and driving test to obtain your Class 2 drivers license and Q (Air brakes) license. This training will be completed over a 3-week period in Banff. Once completed, you will be moved on-site for the required operational training before driving with passengers.

As a Driver Guide, you will contribute to making the Columbia Icefield Adventure and Columbia Icefield Skywalk experiences as memorable, entertaining and informative as possible for guests visiting from around the globe. A Driver Guide is responsible for safely operating various types of coach buses and unique Ice Explorer vehicles while delivering high-quality interpretive tour content in a professional and interactive manner, meeting the service goals and expectations of Pursuit.

What will your compensation be?

The starting salary for this position is $20.50.

What will you do in this job?

  • Providing guests with a high-quality interpretative tour experience around the Columbia Icefield and Athabasca Glacier
  • Coordinating guests and tour groups on/off Coaches and/or Ice Explorers
  • Guest Surveying
  • Mechanical pre-trip/post-trip of assigned Coach or Ice Explorer
  • Responsible for the safe and proper operation/care and upkeep of your daily assigned Coach/Ice explorer throughout the operating day, including
    • Daily servicing/cleaning of the interior/exterior of assigned Coach or Ice Explorer and assisting as required for exterior cleaning
    • Ensuring all windows are kept clear and clean throughout the operating day
    • Avoiding both physical and mechanical damage to the equipment
    • Ensuring passengers are not in areas where vehicles are moving and properly seated during the tour
  • Responsible for safely loading and unloading passengers on your coach being at the coach entrance at all times when passengers are loading/unloading
  • Rotating cleaning schedule of the Transfer Bay area's, including washroom area and garbage clean up;
  • Supporting Colleagues and Loading Staff with additional interpretive information, managing tour groups, tour departures and arrivals, loading and unloading of Coaches and Ice Explorers
  • Communicate with co-workers and management, forwarding observations and comments in a timely fashion
  • Uphold the high standard of environmental stewardship expected for all employees
  • Other duties as assigned.

What skills and experience do you need for this job?

  • Organization and time management skills are a must, but a passion for making a difference for each guest and employee is the most important aspect of this position!
  • Dedication to operating in a safe, reliable and courteous manner during the Class 2 licensing process and at all times while working as a driver. Driving responsibly above all else and adapting the driving to road and weather conditions.
  • Guest service-oriented mindset and a passion for delivering memorable experiences
  • Ability to think on the fly and outside the box to solve problems with a positive attitude
  • Second language, an asset
  • Fluent and articulate in English, able to communicate and comprehend over two-way radio, required;
  • Must be capable of manual duties (bend, stoop, squat and stretch), required
  • Must enjoy working outdoors, even in challenging mountain weather conditions
  • Ability to think outside the box with a positive attitude, and problem-solving skills
  • A fantastic sense of humor as well as a friendly, mature, energetic personality
  • Commitment to become an interpretive expert and ambassador through the completion of a week-long interpretive training program (provided upon starting employment)
  • Mature, energetic, dependable, and self-motivated
  • Enjoy working with a team in a busy, fast-paced environment
  • Must enjoy working outdoors, even in challenging mountain weather conditions
  • Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods in an outdoor environment. Be prepared for all types of weather (Snow, Rain, Wind, Hail) at all times. The weather changes quickly at the Columbia Icefield.
