Position: Junior Business Partner, Global People & Culture

Department: People & Culture

Shift: 12-18months Maternity- Leave coverage

40 hours a week

Location: Richmond, BC, Canada

Reports to: Senior Manager, Global People & Culture

Purpose:

Reporting to Senior Manager, Global People and Culture, the Global Junior HR Business Partner acts as an asset and specialist for the allocated business groups, supporting their day-to-day operational requirements. The role offers coaching, support, and advice to managers and employees, with a focus on creating a culture of high performance, driving engagement, and operational efficiency. This role leverages your expertise to the strategic alignment of employees and business group needs within the Company framework to foster and sustain a positive work culture. The ideal candidate is creative, adaptable, people-oriented and a problem solver, ideally someone who gets energy from finding solutions - it just comes naturally to you. This position has no direct reports.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Managers and provide support in the areas of employee relations and engagement, talent development, conflict resolution, team building and performance management.
  • Establish meaningful and trusted relationships with Managers and identify how HR can help deliver the business objectives.
  • Point of contact for HR inquiries and issues and provide guidance and support to both employees and Managers; facilitate talent development, ensuring goals and objectives are clearly defined.
  • Continuous process improvement and development of new policies and procedures for local and regional requirements.
  • Analyze trends and metrics and support the HR team in developing solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Work closely with Managers to resolve complex employee relations issues; conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Use available resources to form a point of view and provide insights to the business groups; leverage tools to produce key metrics to identify HR opportunities and challenges impacting the business and facilitate decision-making.
  • Oversee all aspects of recruitment activities, including maintaining and creating job descriptions, job posting, phone screening, interview scheduling, background and reference checks, employment contract preparation and onboarding & orientation.
  • Create and present employee life cycle changes (employment contracts, amendment letters, status change, promotions etc), make necessary changes in BambooHR and forward to payroll for processing.
  • Collaborate to effectively liaise with providers on Disability and Benefits management.
  • Actively participate in the ongoing initiatives and committees and represent the HR team in Safety Committee, DEI Committee, Sustainability etc.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the organizational growth strategy and associated talent needs, both short and long-term, and bring forward talent acquisition solutions to support business plans.
  • Maintain in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements related to the day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide support and sound guidance to Managers in managing performance; assist with progressive counselling, action plans and documentation. Work with Managers to manage sensitive issues like conducting terminations as and when required.
  • Learn and stay up-to-date with variety of policies, procedures and practices applicable across different regions to effectively manage the global workforce.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or equivalent education and experience.
  • CPHR, or working towards a designation is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR Generalist experience in a large and complex organization.
  • Strong understanding of Employment Standards (ESA), Human Rights Code, WorkSafe BC regulations, and Human Resources best practices.
  • Global mobility experience with multiple country employment laws, cultural norms, benefits and immigration laws. Specific experience with Canada, United States, Germany, India, United Arab Emirates, Middle East, Turkey and China is preferred.

Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Global recruiting experience with a solid understanding of global mobility, expatriate and immigration-related laws.
  • Familiarity with social media, innovative resources and online tools for sourcing candidates
  • Ability to lead conflict resolution, including coaching, facilitation, mediation, and relationship management.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to align HR strategies and organizational goals
  • Ability to communicate effectively and influence strategic outcomes.
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to identify and recommend creative solutions.
  • Ability to work with considerable independence, initiative and discretion; demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Regulation knowledge is an asset.
  • Ability to research, analyze information and data and make recommendations.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office and HRIS software (BambooHR); knowledge of SharePoint is an asset.
