CSA Group has an opportunity for a Product Safety Engineer in the Healthcare Group. This position is responsible for performing certification and understanding test methods on a variety of Medical Device, measurement equipment, and Systems to the requirements of Canadian, US, and other International product safety standards (e.g. IEC/ANSI AAMI / CSA 60601-1/ 61010 -1 and its Collateral and Particular standards). Project Management, Report writing and communication with clients are key activities required of the position. Provides ongoing written and oral status reports to immediate Manager, and when required Certifiers and Lab Techs.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrated abilities: define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
Deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters.
Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
Progresses from working with fully qualified project holder or mentor to working independently to conduct on and off site evaluation of products to determine compliance of products against requirements of national and / or international standards.
Classifies product by use, environment and function.
Works in collaboration with Lab personnel to determine applicable tests.
Prepares work orders for the test program. Reads and understands schematics and manufacturing instructions.
Validates the project scope and sample applicability.
Conducts thorough construction reviews and documents results.
Prepares certification reports, certificates of compliance and other related CSA documentation.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 1 - years of job related experience or
Engineering Technologist, Journeyman Electrician or equivalent industry experience with likely 3 years of related experience
Experience working with Medical Devices and Laboratory and Test Measurement equipment standards and testing procedures.
Experience working with CSA/IEC Series 60601 and/or 61010 is a preference.
Clinical application experience and/or knowledge of the use of medical devices in the hospital environment an asset.
Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact effectively and efficiently with internal customers as well as well as external.
Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Suite), and as required learn and be proficient in CSA programs (SharePoint, Salesforce, etc.).
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as a team player.
Effective time and project management skills in order to efficiently handle a variety and multiple project requests (quotations, certification projects, etc.) in order to meet timelines for customer project completion dates, and on-time delivery.
Required to be cognizant and knowledgeable of safe practices and follow safety processes in all daily tasks.
Excellent customer relationship skills.
Ability to travel.
