Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources Support Services, the Human Resources (HR) Assistant performs a variety of administrative duties as part of the HR Support Services team.


*This HR Assistant position is a one-year temporary assignment with the possibility of extension*


Responsibilities

  • Provides general HR support, including staffing, recruiting, and onboarding information to principals/vice-principals, managers and support staff employees.
  • Updates employee information in the human resources information system (HRIS) and other applications, as required.
  • Generates various HR related reports and associated documentation.
  • Provides information regarding standard collective agreement provisions, including staffing procedures, leaves, and benefits. 
  • Provides benefits administration support and assists the Disability Management Team with administrative tasks to support employee medical absences and accommodations.
  • Processes various forms, submissions and referrals for support staff employees.
  • Provides back up for and works collaboratively with HR Assistant and HR Coordinator colleagues.
  • Assists with other administrative functions performed within the Human Resources department as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience

  • Certificate or diploma in Administrative Assistant, Office or Business Administration, Human Resources and a minimum of 2 years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Experience in staffing and recruiting in a large-scale unionized environment is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume work environment and maintain attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and belonging and building a caring and respectful workplace. 
  • Advanced skills in Office 365 and HRIS, with an interest in learning new technologies.

The salary range for this position is $66,140 to $82,675 per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.

 

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons. The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
