Compensation Range

$4,970.92 - $7,141.92 CAD Monthly

Job Summary

The Active Kids Gymnastics Program Senior Coach & Coordinator is responsible for instructing, supervising, and managing various elements of the Active Kids Gymnastics programs and services. This includes gymnastics program and training design, administrative oversight, marketing materials, and supervising student employees for current and future Active Kids programs. The Program Coordinator is a key member of the Outreach Programs at the School of Kinesiology, as such the incumbent contributes creativity, project coordination skills, and educational expertise.



Organizational Status
Works in partnership with the Active Kids Program Coordinator and reports directly to the Active Kids Program Director. The Active Kids Gymnastics Program Senior Coach & Coordinator works both independently and in partnership with faculty and staff of the School of Kinesiology Outreach Programs. Liaises with faculty, students, the general public, and departmental staff regarding the use of the assigned facilities, equipment, staff and programs.

Work Performed


Program Supervision, Design and Delivery:

  • Collaborates, communicates and, where applicable, takes direction from / with the Active Kids Program Coordinator for the successful management and execution of all gymnastics programs
  • Responsible for implementation, new program building and design, administration of all Gymnastics based programs
  • Liaises with faculty and Outreach team to ensure programs are evidence based and best practices
  • Assists with the integration of academic curriculum and research activities to practical programs
  • Identifies learning objectives and experiential learning opportunities for UBC students, focusing on Kinesiology students specifically
  • Oversees gymnastics staff training and professional development opportunities
  • Responsible for student instructional staff and volunteer performance evaluations and mentorship (gymnastics)
  • Identifies and assists with grant proposal / applications and project partnerships.

Administrative Oversight:

  • Recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling, supervising, and performance evaluation of gymnastics program support staff and student volunteers for new and existing programs
  • Ensures adequate staffing is available to meet Active Kids program demand
  • Ensure adequate certification and maintenance of accurate records of all support staff and equipment
  • Organizes and participates in orientation and information sessions such as general onboarding processes and Imagine Day
  • Communications internally and externally between the programs and collaborating partners.
  • Develops, maintains and documents detailed procedures and operations for all gymnastics based programming
  • Assists with creating, maintaining and updating all social media, website, and marketing materials for UBC Gymnastics and UBC Active Kids programs.
  • Acts as the main point of contact for Gymnastics based public inquiries and reinforces all program policies.
  • Supports the Registration Office with the processing of Active Kids registration related processes where necessary, such as the development and the maintenance of the registration software
  • Responsible for carrying out all other related duties as necessary in keeping with the requirements and qualifications of the job, the vision and philosophy of Active Kids, Outreach, and the strategic plan of the UBC School of Kinesiology.
  • Represents the UBC School of Kinesiology Outreach Program in a professional manner at all times
  • Exercises wise, moral, ethical, and equitable judgement in all areas of gymnastics programming while also working within the defined operational policies and procedures


Consequence of Error/Judgement

This is a position of trust as it delivers programs to children and adults from the community at large registered in the School of Kinesiology Active Kids programs. Errors could result in personal injury, financial loss as well as in damage to the reputation of the School of Kinesiology and the University of British Columbia.
Supervision Received

Reports to the Active Kids Program Director. Works under minimum supervision, performs most duties independently. Works in liaison with faculty and staff of School of Kinesiology s Outreach Programs.

Supervision Given

Assists with the supervision, training and evaluating of program support staff/student workers and volunteers as required.

Minimum Qualifications
University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Requires NCCP Level 2 Gymnastics certification complete and Emergency First Aid/CPR certification. Certification in NCCP Level 2 or equivalent, pending new certification workshop structure, is mandatory. Level 2 Trampoline and NCCP Fundamental Movement Skill workshop completion is an asset. Must have active interests and experience in Sports / Recreation / Physical Education / Health and Fitness as well as Gymnastics. Proficient using computer software including: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, electronic mail, perfect mind and web browsers. Proficient using social media technology. Ability to identify equipment issues, set-up, maintain and make minor gymnastic equipment repairs. Ability to operate job-related equipment e.g. computers including: hardware, printers, scanners, storage devices and other peripherals; photocopiers, fax machines.
