The Marketing and Communications department at UBC Sauder leads initiatives to build the brand and reputation of the school, both in domestic and global markets, and develops marketing and communication strategies to promote business objectives, including recruitment, student experience, fundraising and alumni and community engagement.

The Director, Performance and Growth Marketing plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the recruitment marketing and experience strategy for the UBC Sauder School of Business. Leveraging an expertise in B2C and B2B marketing, a high-level experience with Salesforce CRM and Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and a strong understanding of digital customer experience, the Director is responsible for building and implementing innovative marketing programs to achieve the organization's acquisition targets and revenue goals.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Assistant Dean, Marketing and Communications. Works closely and builds relationships with UBC Sauder's leadership team, Senior Associate Deans and other UBC Sauder units. Leads multiple teams directly and indirectly through subordinates. Oversees external relationships with agency partners in partnership with the Assistant Dean, Marketing and Communications.

Work Performed

Leadership

  • Builds strong cross-functional partnerships with UBC Sauder departments (Recruitment and Admissions, Executive Education, Continuing Business Studies, and Real Estate Division) to ensure alignment of marketing priorities.

  • Develops, implements, and manages integrated marketing programs aimed at achieving growth targets, increasing organizational revenue, and enhancing brand awareness.

  • Builds strategies to deliver growth and build stakeholder loyalty through the optimization and measurement of acquisition, cross-sell, and remarketing initiatives.

  • Collaborates with the Business Technology Management Office (BTMO) to select and manage technology partners, ensuring maximized marketing performance and profitability.

  • Leads the establishment of acquisition marketing performance goals, sets standards, and manages processes and procedures to ensure alignment across recruitment and digital experience functional areas.

  • Works closely with the Assistant Dean to assess needs, set objectives, and provide recommendations on priorities and performance metrics.

  • Mentors team members to support their professional growth and readiness for future leadership opportunities.

  • Serves as an advocate for performance marketing, using data-driven insights to educate leadership on the impact of marketing strategies on organizational performance.

Research and Analytics

  • Establishes clear measurement processes and reporting practices to manage the performance of all marketing campaigns and partnerships efficiently.

  • Uses data-driven methodologies, business insights, market trends, and competitive analysis to continuously improve marketing strategies across various channels.

  • Leads research initiatives on segmentation models, audience personas, competitive analysis, and program positioning to guide the marketing team in identifying new opportunities and gaining competitive advantages.

  • Creates and manages user-friendly reporting and visualization dashboards, covering metrics such as marketing ROI, campaign impact, and strategic KPIs.

  • Defines the measurement framework, including KPIs and funnel metrics, to provide actionable insights for senior management.

Marketing Technology and Digital Experience

  • Owns the marketing technology architecture and strategy, ensuring seamless data flow between marketing and business unit technologies.

  • Leads the vision and execution of the marketing technology roadmap, auditing and enhancing the marketing technology stack, including automation capabilities and lead processing.

  • Optimizes the marketing automation platform to deliver targeted, personalized campaigns, improving lead nurturing and conversion rates.

  • Oversees data management to ensure data integrity, expanding market reach and driving marketing database strategy and data usage.

Planning and Budget Management:

  • Drives improvements in ROI and reduces cost per acquisition (CPA) across marketing channels.

  • Builds forecasts and projections related to marketing campaign ROI, traffic growth, student & participant acquisition, and other areas requiring robust analysis.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Must be able to work independently and exercise extensive judgement and decision making in managing proactive and reactive brand and communication needs and issues. Every action and decision could have a significant impact on the brand equity and reputation of the school and the University. Poorly designed programs can result in weak results and inefficient spending.

Supervision Received
Reports to the Assistant Dean, Marketing and Communications. Works with minimal guidance under broad guidelines established by the Assistant Dean.

Manages a team directly and indirectly through subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum seven years of related experience, or communication services, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a senior marketing leadership role, with a strong track record of driving growth in acquisition, brand awareness, and revenue growth within domestic and international markets.

  • Advanced experience with Salesforce CRM and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

  • Strong knowledge of digital customer experience, UX, and a combination of B2B and B2C marketing.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, mentor staff, and manage complex marketing projects.

  • Exceptional analytical and research skills with experience in data-driven decision-making.

  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience managing marketing technology and optimizing marketing automation platforms.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex analyses into actionable insights.
