POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director, People, and working closely with CSE managers, this senior level generalist will provide advice and counsel to managers on employee and labour relations issues and provide key HR support to both FT and PT employee groups. This position will also perform a wide variety of human resource generalist functions to attract, develop, and retain a satisfied, people-oriented, and high performing event-based workforce. This position will provide support to our NHL and AHL hockey clubs, NLL Lacrosse and eSports teams as well as head office and arena personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned as required)

Client Group Support
  • Provide HR Support to Full-time and Part-Time employees
  • Act as the key contact to supervisors and managers, providing guidance on HR related questions and handling performance related issues that arise
  • Work event times at Rogers Arena, as required
Recruitment & Selection
  • Take a proactive lead in exploring and executing innovative recruitment strategies attracting best-in-class full-time and event staff for Rogers Arena
  • Manage all recruitment and postings for assigned client group, and coach managers on general recruitment and selection issues
  • Plan and lead the event staff job fair program at CSE, always exploring ways to improve, and provide guidance and leadership to our Top Prospect interns who execute the job fairs
  • Conduct reference checks and draft employment agreements as required
Employee & Labour Relations
  • In collaboration with the Director, Human Resources, administer the collective agreement, labour statutes and company policies, and provide advice to managers as required
  • Support a positive labour environment by building relationships with staff, management and the Union and takes a proactive and positive approach to issue resolution
  • Conduct investigations of employee issues that are brought forward, and work in collaboration with other HR management to resolve
  • Handle first step employee grievances
  • Monitor and follow up on medical leaves for employees in assigned client group; work closely with department managers on return-to-work accommodations
Special Projects & Assignments
  • Provide support to People Department colleagues on various social and employee engagement activities
  • Administer health & welfare benefits programs
  • Complete special projects and/or assignments as assigned by the Director, People and/or VP, People
  • Provide back-up support People Department colleagues, as required
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A diploma/degree in Human Resource Management along with a minimum of 5+ years' progressive generalist experience in a unionized environment
  • In-depth experience in employee relations, labour relations, interpreting and administering a Collective Agreement, incident investigations and grievance handling is required
  • A positive team player with high energy and a strong client service focus
  • A thoughtful and collaborative problem solver, with a problem-solving approach that is practical and client-centered
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to interact effectively with diverse client groups
  • A professional and collaborative approach to working with unions and handling LR issues
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, objectivity, confidentiality, good judgment, and professionalism when handling all HR related issues
  • A passionate self-starter who puts thought, creativity, and ingenuity into work assignments
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects
  • Exceptional computer proficiency with a strong working knowledge of Windows-based software applications; a strong aptitude and interest in HR systems and data
  • Experience with innovative staff recruitment and retention strategies with a high volume, preferably including a large part time workforce
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to work evening, weekends, and holidays, as necessary, per the game and event calendar
