Job Summary
The Organizational Development and Learning (ODL) Specialist works within Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS). SHCS resides in the Vice-President, Students (VPS) portfolio, and focuses on creating an exceptional UBC student experience. SHCS is made up of seven different services on campus: Child Care, Food Services, Residence Life and Administration, Conferences and Accommodation, Parking, Bookstore & Campus Mail, Facilities and Building Services and five support units consisting of Occupational Health and Safety, Marketing and Communications, Information Technology, Finance, and Human Resources. This position contributes to the creation and delivery of an exceptional SHCS staff experience.
In partnership with SHCS departments and the Associate Director, Organizational Development and Learning, the ODL Specialist develops and delivers organizational development initiatives in alignment with the University's Strategic Plan and unit level strategic and business plans. This will include conducting survey delivery, assessment and reporting, providing team coaching, and partnering with stakeholders on the design, development, implementation and delivery of high-quality learning programs.
Organizational Status
The ODL Specialist reports to the Associate Director, ODL. Works closely with senior staff in the delivery and/or organization of training and certifications as well as other Human Resources staff in SHCS and VPS. The ODL Specialist works with a wide variety of staff in SHCS through the development and implementation of a variety of organizational and people development initiatives.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Failure to perform duties effectively would cause significant loss of credibility and support from program participants, and managers. Errors in judgement in determining approach and techniques needed could result in high costs to the unit, and would affect the quality and success of projects.
Supervision Received
The ODL Specialist works under the general direction of the Associate Director, ODL. Work is performed collaboratively with other HR team members and requires independent decision-making.
Supervision Given
No direct reports. May be required to provide guidance to clerical staff and feedback to trainers.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of four to five years of related work experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of adult education principles and strong working knowledge of the higher education industry.
Knowledge or experience in business process reengineering and continuous improvement is preferred.
Coaching certification accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) preferred.
Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze data and effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities.
Experience managing successful projects from inception to completion, meeting deadlines, and resolving unexpected and/or ambiguous situations or issues.
Ability to think strategically and from an organization and departmental perspective, and to translate into practical, implementable solutions appropriate to the organizational context.
Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner.
Demonstrated understanding of the relationship between diversity, inclusion, and excellence. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse colleagues, teams and clients.
