Reports to: Director, People

POSITION SUMMARY:

The People Generalist provides first line support to employees and managers of Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) and will be responsible for various HR programs and initiatives. This role will oversee recruitment strategies for both full-time and hourly employees of CSE and will assist with labour and employee relations issues as well as various proactive people initiatives. There is considerable opportunity for growth in this role, depending on the skills and initiative of the successful candidate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned as required)

  • Provides first line HR Support to CSE employees and advise managers on HR related issues that fall within areas of responsibility
  • Takes a proactive lead in exploring and executing innovative recruitment strategies attracting best-in-class full-time and event staff for Rogers Arena
  • Plans and leads the event staff job fair program at CSE, always exploring ways to improve
  • Administers the health & welfare benefits program for all FT and eligible PT employees
  • Conducts reference checks and drafts employment agreements as required
  • In collaboration with the Director, People administers the terms of the collective agreement and other employee relations statutes, provides guidance to managers, and assists Director, People with fact gathering on various LR issues
  • Develops a collaborative relationship with the Union and takes a proactive approach to issue resolutions
  • Handles first step employee grievances and collaborate with Director, People on investigations and/or independently conduct investigations, as required
  • Works event-time, as required, at Rogers Arena and Abbotsford Centre to engage with staff and managers to build collaborative relationships
  • Provides support and backup to members of the People Team, as required
  • Oversees special projects and perform other related duties, as required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years' HR generalist experience in a unionized workplace, with a Certificate or Diploma in a human resources related program, or a combination of education and experience
  • Experience in a similar role; an understanding of interpreting and administering a collective agreement is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated experience introducing creative ideas for recruiting in a challenging labour market
  • Demonstrated experience thoroughly investigating incidents, following appropriate process, reporting on outcome and effectively bringing to resolution
  • A self-starter, with a positive approach to work and eagerness for constant improvement
  • A customer-first orientation
  • Attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Energized by an event-based environment and non-standard work schedule
  • A passion for a high energy, fast paced work environment
  • Views changing priorities, sometimes last minute, with a positive attitude and approach
  • Experience with HRIS systems and a strong aptitude for HR database concepts is preferred
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
