About the role

We are recruiting to fill an Operations (OPS) Room role on a full time and onsite basis. As a member of the Naval Tactics and Team Training Support (NTTTS) team the responsibilities include:

  • Participate in training serials in the Synthetic Environment Advanced Combat Operator Trainer (SEACOT)/Synthetic Environment Advanced Warfare Operations and Leadership Facility (SEAWOLF) training simulators
  • Provide integral training support in one of the following roles for individual and collective training events:
  • Officer in Tactical Command (OTC) / Command Task Group (CTG) (primary)
  • Game Controller (As required)
  • Above-Water Warfare Commander (AWWC)
  • Underwater Warfare Commander (UWWC)
  • Anti-Surface Warfare Commander (ASuWC)
  • Tactical Air (TacAir)
  • Support training in one of the above roles during Operational Team Training serials
  • Support the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) by providing instructors with lesson plan integration support and scenario development, including the development of new games and scenarios
  • Provide classroom and trainer mentoring support, with a focus on Combat Management System (CMS) operations, to include tactical updates and OPS room procedures
  • Recommend operational insertions that will make the SEACOT/SEAWOLF classrooms effective
  • Provide support to Halifax-based NTTTS team as required to meet RCN training targets, this includes regular attendance to virtual meetings and travel to location when necessary
  • Liaise with Lockheed Martin Canada Inc (Lockheed Martin)’s on-site Configuration Management (CM) and Data Management (DM) and System Administrator as required;
  • Conduct tours, provide demonstrations of the SEACOT/SEAWOLF, and prepare presentations of other Lockheed Martin initiatives as tasked by Department of National Defence (DND)
  • Identify (with the aid of instructors) and report discrepancies between application contents and operational systems functionality
  • Lead the NTTTS West team in preparation for Collective Training (CT) serials, and coordination of game development activities with NTTTS East when necessary
  • Lead training continuous improvement activities related to NTTTS work and across internal Lockheed Martin initiatives
  • Liaise with West Coast functional Technical Training Asc. Manager as required to support analysis, planning, communication, design, development and delivery of training to the RCN as well as to highlight areas of potential growth
  • Support a flexible work schedule, including travel, and overtime when necessary to support program, team and customer milestones
  • Liaise with Lockheed Martin engineering discipline teams when necessary to collaboratively drive solutions forward

As a member of our team, the successful candidate contributes to our key projects as follows:
  • Work independently within a DND Naval Training System providing operational support for the warfare command roles in training scenarios using the SEACOT/SEAWOLF training simulators.
  • Employment expectations will also extend to include conducting training development and delivery.
  • Support instructors by determining how to incorporate SEACOT/SEAWOLF into lesson plans and how to conduct operational scenarios to support training.
  • This includes conducting training scenarios in command roles of mission-based scenarios.
  • Will liaise between DND and Lockheed Martin staff to report defects and areas for enhancement.

What you bring to the role

  • Diploma from a recognized school or military/civilian technical training with 5-7 years of professional experience
  • Recent experience or demonstrated capacity to perform any one of the Warfare Commander roles described (e.g. Operations Room Officer (ORO)//Director coursing)
  • Experience with Voice Comms and Naval tactics is necessary
  • Knowledge of CMS 330 and associated trainers
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Recent experience or demonstrated capacity to instruct in a DND/Canadian Forces Individual Training and Education System (CFITES) based classroom environment is an asset
  • Training and experience in a CFITES environment with course scheduling, authoring training materials, and applying these in the trainers is an asset
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • French and/or Spanish language skill an asset
