Job Summary:

The Case Manager is the primary contact responsible for the provision of case management services to an assigned region, industry and/or group of employers, and their injured workers. The incumbent is responsible for entitlement decisions and ongoing management of claim files originating from the assigned region, industry and/or group of employers, including the provision of primary rehabilitation and return to work services, the promotion of disability management concepts to stakeholders and the coordination and monitoring of vocational rehabilitation and other professional services.

Job Duties:

Manages the overall case management process for physical and psychological injury and illness claims. Collects, reviews and assesses claim information on a regular basis to establish a worker's initial and continuing entitlement to benefits and services. Authorizes and communicates all entitlement decisions to appropriate stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.

Adheres to established Case Management guidelines and best practices. Provides personalized service through meetings with injured workers, employers and other relevant stakeholders to exchange information in regards to workplace injuries, return to work programs and associated rehabilitation plans.

Proactively identifies safe and suitable modified or alternate return to work opportunities where medically appropriate; coordinates and/or assists stakeholders with return to work planning; attends work sites to assess appropriateness of proposed work alternatives and problem solves barriers to return to work either independently or in conjunction with other staff (i.e. Rehabilitation Specialist, Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant); monitors return to work plans once established.

Develops, documents, implements, monitors, and evaluates health and return to work outcomes and revises case plans accordingly.

Determines the need for, and coordinates the services and expertise provided by, other team members (e.g. Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant, Rehabilitation Specialist, Payment Assessor) and monitors the progress and outcome of the case plan.

Proactively identifies injured workers who have physical and/or psychological barriers to recovery and return to work, provides appropriate support and guidance, and facilitates referrals for professional services as required.

Facilitates multi-disciplinary meetings between WCB internal/external resources to design and implement case plans for complex cases.

Promotes and supports workplace-based disability management and return to work programs. This can include employer meetings and worksite visits, and attending information/discussion sessions on behalf of WCB in coordination with Return to Work Program Services, SAFE Work Manitoba, industry associations and other stakeholders.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

University degree in a related field such as Commerce, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Nursing, Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy

Minimum five (5) years experience making entitlement decisions while providing client service

Proficiency in the use of personal computers and software in a Windows environment

Knowledge of adjudication or vocational rehabilitation or case management or disability management programs, policies, procedures and principles

Knowledge of medical terminology/issues

Ability to interpret and apply provisions of The Workers Compensation Act, Government Employees Compensation Act, and Manitoba Public Insurance Act

Ability to obtain, assess, evaluate and rationalize to support case management decisions

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to deal with internal and external stakeholders

Ability to organize and prioritize workload

Ability to work under pressure to tight deadline while providing excellent client service in sometimes confrontational situations

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Must be able to travel within the province of Manitoba

Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $73,430 - $91,789

A satisfactory criminal record check and verification of education will be required for the successful candidate.

Please note that this position is tentatively set to begin in March 2025 with a 12 week training class in Winnipeg, MB. During the period of your training, you will not be eligible to take vacation and hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
