About the Role

The Manitoba Inuit Association (MIA) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Human Resources Manager to lead all HR functions, aligning with the organization’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role is integral to fostering a supportive and effective workplace through innovative HR strategies, operational excellence, and commitment to employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Update job descriptions, develop recruitment approaches prioritizing Inuit employment strategies, and oversee the full hiring cycle, including job evaluations, advertising, candidate assessments, and onboarding.
  • Provide guidance on policy interpretation, performance management, and conflict resolution while supporting workplace investigations and employee relations issues.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, administer benefits and pensions, and ensure compliance with all HR systems and documentation processes.
  • Develop and monitor HR policies, establish HR goals, and implement initiatives such as employee orientations, succession planning, and health and safety programming.
  • Identify staff training needs, deliver HR-related training, and oversee employee onboarding and offboarding processes.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a dynamic professional with a strong understanding of HR best practices, employment law, and legislation, combined with proven experience in policy development, recruitment, and employee relations. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to build and maintain relationships across all levels of the organization, are essential. This role requires a culturally aware and adaptable individual who thrives in collaborative environments and demonstrates the motivation to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in HR Management, Business, Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
  • CPHR designation is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years in an HR generalist role, with exposure to recruitment, performance management, and HR administration.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Experience working with Inuit organizations and applying employment legislation is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required, and Inuktitut is preferred.
