Position Summary

  • Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist (OT)/ Physiotherapist (PT)/ Director of Care (DOC) is responsible for reviewing, implementing, monitoring and teaching residents, their families, and staff members how to maintain/improve the resident's level of independence while maintaining a supportive and safe environment.
  • Makes decisions with nursing staff in the absence of OT/PT, until the OT/PT are next available.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (ex. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies manager or designate of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any others who enter the premises.

Education

  • Required - Rehabilitative Assistant Certificate.
  • Health Care Aide Certificate is an asset
  • English-as-an-Additional Language (EAL) Level 6 required.

Experience

  • Two years experience as a Health Care Aide or rehabilitation assistant, or equivalent acceptable to the facility

Knowledge

  • Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices.
  • Knowledge of Rehabilitative Assistant's practices and techniques
  • Knowledge of health & hygiene practices
  • Knowledge of Occupational /Physiotherapy equipment including its functions and applications
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions.

Skills

  • Good organizational skills
  • Good observational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all contacts
  • Ability to function in a computerized environment; ability to maintain written and computerized records such as an Excel spreadsheet and communicate through e-email
  • Ability to perform assigned duties accurately and efficiently without supervision
  • Effective interpersonal relationships demonstrated in carrying out duties
  • Able to meet deadlines for completion of work assignments and reports
  • Ability to maintain safety measures in the performance of duties
  • Good physical and mental health to meet the demands of the position; ability to lift 51 pounds
  • Ability to safely use supplies and equipment
