Position Overview:

Saint John is a place where cultural communities flourish and enjoy a fantastic quality of life. The Arts and Culture Coordinator will uphold our community's reputation as an arts and cultural hub of Canada as a member of the Community Services team. The Arts and Culture Coordinator plays a key role in the strategic planning and implementation of arts and culture related programming. The Arts and Culture Coordinator will work within a team that is dedicated to facilitating growth, and creating the most sustainable arts and cultural future for the Saint John community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Arts and Culture Coordinator is essential in building creative synergies between the City's broader arts and culture programing and Common Council's priorities, the municipal plan, long- term financial planning and ongoing economic development efforts by:

• Acting as the strategic support and liaison between the City of Saint John and the Saint John Arts Board.

• Coordinating and overseeing the Saint John Community Arts Funding Program, Artist in Residence Program as well as the Public Art Maintenance Budget.

• Assisting in the delivery of arts programming.

• Leading Saint John's broader arts, culture strategies, and action plans under management direction.

• Acting as the coordinating lead between the City of Saint John and major arts related events and festivals within the City.

• Acting as strategic support and liaison between the city and the Civic Commemoration Committee.

• Other related work as assigned.

The portfolio will be expected to support a variety of projects, initiatives and assignments linked to community services within the City of Saint John including:

• Forge strong working relationships with local, provincial, and national partners and stakeholders to profile the role that arts and culture plays in the Saint John community.

• Working with partners, deliver strong evidence-based reporting on the return on investment associated with the arts and culture programming facilitated by the City of Saint John.

• Represent the City on arts and culture related boards, planning committees and intergovernmental collaborations.

• Facilitate ongoing engagement amongst stakeholders, citizens, partners and colleagues in areas of arts and culture.

Research and analysis is a key facet of this role, and will require support in the development of qualitative and quantitative reports, briefings.

The portfolio will require presentations to a variety of audiences, including, but not limited to:
Common Council, Growth Committee, Saint John Community Arts Board and Civic Commemoration Committee.

This role will require work beyond core business hours in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement.

Essential Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in the arts, cultural planning, and/or economic development field.

A university degree in planning, social sciences, arts, public administration, business or a related discipline.

Demonstrated skills in research, writing and presentation development.

Prior group facilitation and briefing senior management will be considered an asset.

Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.

The successful applicant may be eligible to participate in a Flexible Time Options Program which includes the option of working a 4 or 5-day work week, subject to business requirements.
