As a Technical Safety Engineer your role will be to understand and manage the company-wide operational risk management process; facilitate risk assessments and to support operational areas to utilize the company’s risk matrix in a consistent way.

Your responsibilities:
Coach and support engineers and operational teams from across the business areas in the fundamentals of risk assessment and use of the Irving Oil Risk Matrix to effectively identify, categorize, manage and report on risks within their own area.
Facilitate discussions for the development of mitigation plans to address identified high risks.
Use risk assessment software to produce technical reports, memos etc, record recommendations and applicable information.
Able to audit risk assessment processes for compliance to the process and identification of improvements.
Ownership of various projects from conception to completion with very little supervision.
Manage complex tasks and functions as required.
Evaluate the effectiveness of identified controls or mitigations to ensure the required level of risk mitigation has been achieved.
Work effectively with Senior Leaders, Directors and Managers to minimize risk.
Manage and enhance the company-wide risk management process as required.

Ability to facilitate risk assessment sessions and work with a diverse group of Engineers, EHS professionals and Operational personnel.

Must have the ability to make solid decisions on important matters based on available information
Your experience:
University degree in Safety and Risk Engineering, sound knowledge of complex engineering processes and facets of engineering.
Minimum of 8-12 years’ experience in engineering, organizational experience, and experience at a leading engineering level would be an asset.
Experience in conducting risk assessments and using a risk matrix is essential. HAZOP Chairman experience would be an asset.
Must have their PEng (Professional Engineer) designation.
Technical Safety Engineering experience would be an asset
