The Opportunity

As a Youth/Teen Soccer Coach, you will play a key role in creating a safe, positive, and engaging environment where youth can develop their soccer skills and overall well-being. Working closely with the Recreation Supervisor, you will deliver high-quality, inclusive programming that fosters teamwork, personal growth, and fun for participants of all skill levels.


Your responsibilities will include actively coaching and mentoring youth, organizing and leading soccer sessions, and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants. You'll guide players to improve their skills while promoting respect, sportsmanship, and a passion for the game. You will also be prepared to address challenges, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience for everyone involved.


This is a casual position, requiring a commitment of 6 hours every Saturday, with opportunities for flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends, at the Saint John Regional Y, and additional shifts available at the Irving Oil Field House.


Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead soccer programs that promote teamwork, confidence, and a love for the game.
  • Employ inclusive and adaptive techniques to ensure everyone, regardless of ability, feels welcome and supported.
  • Create a fun and safe environment during both drop-in and scheduled soccer programs, fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Mentor youth by setting positive examples in behavior, effort, and sportsmanship.
  • Administer soccer program logistics, including sign-in/sign-out sheets, youth grading, and soccer program development.
  • Collaborate with youth and families, encouraging them to take an active role in shaping our programs and volunteer opportunities.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure the space is organized and safe.
  • Provide leadership to staff and volunteers, contributing to the overall success of the YMCA's soccer and recreation programming.


Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or post-secondary education, with experience in youth work or sports programs and working with children
  • A passion for soccer and youth development. Coaching experience is a plus.
  • Have or be willing to obtain Soccer Canada Coaching Diploma.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a strong commitment to inclusivity.
  • A clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and clearance from the Department of Social Development.
