Job Summary
Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine (also known as the Medical School) teaches scientific excellence and humanities in medicine, facilitates leading health research, influences social and health policy, and helps drive the regional economy. An integral part of Atlantic Canada since 1868, the Medical School's success has always been linked to our relevance to the communities we serve. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources (Faculty of Medicine), the Human Resources Advisor is responsible for providing Human Resource (HR) advice and consultation for optimal HR-related services for all faculty and staff in the Faculty of Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and advise on the academic recruitment and appointment process for basic science and clinical faculty, providing guidance to department heads, administrators and search committee chairs on processes required to initiate and complete academic recruitment in alignment with the various policies, procedures and collective agreements.
  • Administer and advise on the promotion, tenure and annual career development processes in the Faculty of Medicine including communication of eligibility and deadlines, standards, documentation and regulations, ensuring University and Faculty of Medicine requirements are met and procedures adhered to.
  • Advise and contribute to academic and staff recruitment and appointment processes.
  • Provide staff-related Human Resources advisory services on behalf of and for the Faculty of Medicine, relating to recruitment, job description & job evaluation, probationary monitoring, leave management, and performance improvement and development.
  • Participate in projects relating to process improvement, accreditation, annual reporting requirements, emerging priorities and strategic plans. Serve as lead on committees or working groups and perform other tasks as required.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree required, concentration in human resources or other related certification, plus at least three to five years' experience in a human resources role (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Excellent prioritization, communication and interpersonal skills are required, as well as excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience advising on matters related to performance management, recruitment and retention, onboarding, collective agreements, employee handbooks.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of programs and SharePoint is required.
Assets
  • Professional experience in a unionized and/or university or healthcare environment.
  • Experience using information systems and producing various reports for analysis (Banner, SharePoint, etc.).
  • CPHR designation.
