As the project Indigenous Relations Coordinator, you will be an important part of the project team and will contribute to fostering positive relationships between First Nations communities, EllisDon, the project, as well as facilitating and maintaining engagement throughout the project to develop positive and lasting relationships with Indigenous Communities an attract participation by Indigenous businesses and individuals on our projects.

The Indigenous Relations Coordinator role:

  • Supports a culture of Indigenous Inclusion. This includes sharing knowledge and understanding of Indigenous peoples, cultures, history, governance, and protocols.
  • Fosters relationships and works with Indigenous communities, businesses, clients, and governmental stakeholders to support Indigenous Engagement Plans to improve capacity and participation with EllisDon projects.
  • Develops and facilitates cultural awareness training, including knowledge and understanding of local Indigenous histories, languages, and cultures.
  • Provides strategic advice, ongoing reporting, and presentations to senior management regarding Indigenous consultation and engagement.
  • oversees Indigenous relations and associated area data collection and analysis to establish, monitor, and report on area business achievements, including subcontractor engagement, Indigenous employment, training initiatives, and Indigenous community engagement.
  • Coordinates the development of Project Indigenous Benefits Plans, monitor and report on progress being made.
  • Acts as the liaison with government representatives on programs that support Indigenous businesses and communities.

Is this the right role for you?

  • Identify as a First Nations member.
  • 2-3 years of experience working with Indigenous businesses and Indigenous communities.
  • Post secondary education in Indigenous Relations/Studies, or relevant experience in a similar role is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous traditional and treaty rights, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to Indigenous engagement and the implementation of Indigenous Participation Plans on major projects.
  • You possess good communication skills, verbal and written.
  • You have the ability to quickly develop working relationships with a broad range of individuals, both internally and externally.
  • You are available to be on site and in various Communities.
  • Please note, this position requires some travel to different sites and events.
