About the Opportunity

NSHA Labour Law is a team of labour lawyers, and administrative staff, within NSHA Office of the General Counsel, who provide a specialized labour law services to the NSHA with a provincial scope, providing services to all 4 zones of NSHA and also provides specialized labour law services to the IWK Health Centre.

The Legal Assistant is responsible for specific paralegal duties as well as providing comprehensive administrative support to the labour relations team by effectively coordinating the day-to-day operation of the labour relations team. The position coordinates all administrative activities including opening files, tracks their status, schedules hearings and meetings, prepares documents for hearings, establishes administrative procedures and guidelines in conjunction with the Managing Lawyer, and acts as a liaison with other administrative assistants within the Office of General Counsel. This position works closely with, and takes direction from the Managing Lawyer, Labour Relations and the labour lawyers. This role is an integral part of the labour relations team and contributes significantly to its efficiency and success.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12 plus successful completions of a post-secondary diploma in Office Administration or Paralegal Technology from a recognized institution. An Equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience, providing administrative support and office coordination in a law firm, in-house legal department or government legal department
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, prioritizing and organizational skills required
  • Demonstrated competencies requiring advanced skills and abilities in all facets of modern office practices and technology
  • Experience utilizing technology in meeting planning to create efficiencies and streamline tracking and retrieval of information
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent, full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

$23.78 - $29.73 Hourly
