The Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Coordinator has accountability to facilitate the maintenance and continuous improvement of multiple aspects of the OH&S Program, policies, and procedures. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia but with involvement in health & safety for our operations across Canada, this position supports the OH&S team and all departments, maintaining a highly professional, visible, and innovative approach to systems, compliance, and safety activities across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify safety issues and work with the Director, OH&S to implement problem-solving strategies
  • Act as an advisor to all Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) as well as individual departments
  • Facilitate review of specific aspects of the OH&S program such as training compliance, Job Safety Analysis, and safety communications
  • Conduct field observations and inspections and generate recommendations from findings
  • Provide support in investigating incidents to analyze causes and formulate remedial actions as required
  • Participate in design and delivery of employee training
  • Perform ergonomic assessments for employees
  • Perform research related to legislation, best practices, and services and equipment
  • Participate in safety audits and safety recognition initiatives
  • Provide support with federal and provincial reporting, including workers' compensation claims.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education related to Health and Safety, Human Resources, or another relevant field
  • The ability to multi-task, take initiative and work independently to manage workload and deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software programs
  • Working knowledge of federal OH&S legislation, including Part II of the Canada Labour Code, an asset
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry an asset.
