Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Safety Trainer. The Health, Safety and Equipment Trainer's responsibilities are to assist in the development, teaching and monitoring of safety training programs for Irving Shipbuilding employees at all locations (Halifax Shipyards, Bluenose, Woodside, Marine Fabricators). The Trainer is also responsible for maintaining equipment certifications for all sites.
This role is responsible for supporting overall training effectiveness through optimizing our Learning & Development systems, submitting training records for all employees, and ensuring that all curriculum is delivered in a fashion that will allow the workforce to retain the required knowledge to pass the certification test and perform work safely in production.
This individual will be one of the first points of contact for new hires at ISI. This includes Local 1, Staff (all levels), subcontractors, and the customer (DND) as they will also be responsible for subcontractor orientations. They will be responsible for supervising up to 20 people during onboarding.
During training the instructor is responsible for employee's health and safety by ensuring compliance with all HSE work instructions.
The instructor will need to ensure they are aware of any changes to the applicable CSA standard to adjust their training accordingly so that ISI maintains its compliance for this training.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The primary language of work is English.
