Reporting to the Manager, Quality Improvement & Safety, the Quality Improvement & Safety Leader will provide leadership within NSH's overall provincial and zone programs for quality, safety, accreditation, risk management; and responsibility to implement all aspects of comprehensive quality improvement, patient safety, patient family engagement, risk management and accreditation plans to achieve the best outcomes in health care program and service delivery, safe care and continuous improvement to meet or exceed all accreditation requirements.
QIS Leaders actively seek and implement solutions related to system issues for programs and services within NSH's provincial and zone responsibilities, while meeting the goals and objectives of the Nova Scotia Health. The position provides leadership, advice and guidance, and support to leaders, vice presidents, staff and physicians on systems work redesign and increase performance in alignment with portfolio, zone and provincial initiatives, provides information, and guidance regarding of evidence informed best practices and patient safety; leads and provides expertise in the development of effective care delivery models, which are responsive to current and future health human resources and/or health care trends; leads and directs implementation of evidence based practice that improves patient care outcomes and experience; works collaboratively with staff, physicians and leaders to apply evidence based findings to clinical practices; and provides support, including but not limited to literature reviews, environmental scans, best practice guidelines and legislation applicable to health care.
QIS Leaders hold many responsibilities including leading investigations of patient safety incidents, facilitating quality reviews, trending analysis, leading and/or providing improvement coaching for quality improvement initiatives, supporting accreditation activities, as well as providing education and training related to QIS related priorities, policies and procedures.
