Reporting to the Manager, Organizational Effectiveness, the Human Resources Consultant (HRC) is an HR professional who contributes to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of the organization's goals and objectives. The HRC is responsible for providing human resources leadership, advice, and consultation to their business unit(s) and will play a key role in driving forward HR initiatives.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with your business unit(s), based on the demonstration of added value from Human Resources. Develop an awareness of the business challenges and objectives to drive a proactive approach to Human Resources.
  • Provide consultation and coaching on issues related to employee relations, workforce planning, talent and performance management, recruitment and selection, onboarding, compensation, organizational development, disability management and the exit process.
  • Lead recruitment for all senior positions in the Company.
  • Lead the annual mid-year and year-end Performance Management process.
  • Make suggestions for workflow and process improvements. Proactively identify process inefficiencies and inconsistencies and collaborate toward an improved and more productive process that will enhance the overall client experience.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate personnel strategies including policies, programs, and procedures to address the organization's human resource requirements.
  • Advise managers and employees on the interpretation of personnel policies, compensation, and benefit programs, in consultations with HR managers.
  • Understand the state of assigned business unit(s) and act as a liaison between the HR team and senior business leaders.
  • Research and prepare job descriptions, benchmarking and competency appraisal measures and systems.
  • Manage programs and maintain human resources information and related records systems.
  • Mentor the HR Representatives as they manage recruitment and other tasks in support of the HR Consultants and the business through the lens of professional development.
  • Participate fully in our organizational health and safety programs, adhering to all safe work practices and procedures and staying focused on continuous improvement. In addition, ensuring all Accident Prevention Program (APP's) training, all Code of Business Conduct (CoBC) training, and all other Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training are completed on time.
  • Timely completion of all administrative tasks including, but not limited to time reporting, expense reporting and submission of corporate card statements, as applicable.

Knowledge And Skills Required

  • Degree in Human Resources or related discipline with a minimum of five years operational HR experience. Alternative combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and can multi-task, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Above average interpersonal, relationship management, oral and written communication, and listening skills, as well as the ability to negotiate and solve problems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly in Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
  • Customer-focused attitude, with a high level of professionalism and discretion and the ability to provide feedback, influence, create and present presentations, assist in process development and help solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills, with proven ability to manage differing priorities items at multiple different stages.
  • Ability to demonstrate social responsibility in combination with a strong knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, Collective Agreements and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Document Act (PIPEDA).
  • Passion for people with the ability to build meaningful relationships cross-departmentally.
  • Ability to work with confidential information on a regular basis and balance corporate objectives with employee requirements.
  • Strong sense of integrity and can maintain discretion under duress in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to understand the value of diversity.
  • Some travel is required, particularly for recruiting and career fair trips.
  • Experience with HRIS database systems would be an asset.
  • CPHR Designation would be an asset.
